I lived briefly in LA during 2017-2018. I did think it was funny to walk into the Shell on Victory and Lankershim in N. Hollywood, when it was early December, 90 degrees out, and still hear “Baby It’s Cold Outside” over the radio speakers.

How did you get any sleep whatsoever on Friday or Saturday nights when you were living on St. Mark's Place? (I think most of my memories of it being loud on those nights were between 2nd and 3rd Ave, so I suppose it could be a bit quieter past 2nd.)

Today was the first 70+ day of the year in NYC. (If circumstances were otherwise, I'd probably have been sitting outside Veselka with an egg cream and a plate of whatever special spring pirogi they had on offer. Alas.) I've lived in various parts of NY for almost my entire life and so I suppose we've got different perspectives on the seasons. I don't really look forward to summer as such--anything over 75 or so can be a bit much for me--but I think I'd be disappointed if there wasn't a noticeable change from spring to summer. I don't doubt that the year-round comfortable climate my aunt in Berkeley boasts about is lovely, but I imagine I'd yearn for summer or winter now and then. As much of a chore as it is to shovel snow, there was a peculiar feeling of incongruity when I recently put my snow shovel away for the season without having had to use it all that much.

For me, spring smells like honeysuckle and freshly mowed lawns. It's amazing how scents can evoke memories and emotions, isn't it?
