This is a great piece, and it really highlights that struggle writers face between writing to write and writing for an audience, and the vast grey area between those two.
I've definitely done those projects where I am delighted to produce something "for exposure" and just happy at the prospect of an audience of any kind, and then those times where I'm just like, "screw you--pay me."
