I still hesitate today, as a teacher, when I tell my students about an oral presentation. I'm waiting for snickers, so I steel my face to stay straight. The snickers never come.

Ha! I remember hearing that, but I also remember hearing other definitions! And I’ve actually seen people get into arguments about its meaning!

Mara, may I ask you something? I read the lovely article that you wrote about Matilda at 30. From reading many things that you write, Matildas character is brought up at several different points for different reasons. Your reactions can differ from the name bringing you joy, or some times- even discontent. I've always had this thing about seeing and reading things in others that even they may not even see in themselves. I feel like years ago, Matilda became an alias for you. One that you were happy to take on. One you related to. Now, over 20 years later, you're still branded with that alias whether you like it or not. Some times I wonder "Dear lord, when she fills out a job application and the question that asks Have you ever been known by another name or alias? Does she need to or has she ever almost wrote in Matilda Wormwood?!" Lol if not, you should do it one time. Someone would get a kick out of it. If no one gets it, just walk out. That job would have sucked.

Idk just.. as amazing as it was and has been for you to portray such a fabulous character, I believe you were also given a heavy backpack to carry as well. Not filled with books like Matilda, but filled with a sort of burden. You didn't get to take that backpack off when you finished school. You've had to carry it your whole life, a life that you still have a long ways left to go. You probably feel that most of the time you need to be the better parts 9f her to remain that way in everyone's eyes and not just for them, but for her as well because you will always be the image of her. I don't know what Matilda would be doing at age 30 and I had never really thought about her growing up. I guess I never thought of it because she was never really meant to grow up. Her image is better left as a child. Just as children believe in fairy tales like Santa, the Easter Bunny, tooth fairy etc. Matilda gives children and even some adults a very powerful thing- Hope. She is able to do this because she is a child and not an adult. It gives a message that tells them that no matter how different they are they are not alone in it. That strength can be found in the most hopeless of times. That even the smallest of people does not make them weak and that they can have the courage to stand up to tyrants and giants. Matilda sent that message out to the world, just like all the heroes in all the many book that she read sent theirs. If anyone ever calls you Matilda and asks you if you still have powers, just say yes. Then find the nearest pen and paper or even a napkin and wrote HOPE on it. Give it to them and leave. They have to figure the meaning of it out on their own. Her power was hope and learning how to use it. After that, it never died, it remained inside of her as it remains inside all of us. You don't always have to carry that heavy backpack around because the world expects you to or even you expect it of yourself. Give it back to Matilda. She may need it to carry a stack of books of she is going to be like a world traveler. You are so amazing just as Mara. Not because you're the girl that portrayed Matilda. You are Mara Wilson. You put yourself out into the world time Nd time again and you did the things that scared you the most, fought for what you believed in, seized the opportunities and the fear of failure never consumed your courage of trying. It makes me wonder if so many fans or even you can realize that Mara Wilson is not 2nd best to Matilda. You may not be able to move o jets with your mind, but you can move the world with your heart.

Mara, I wanted to share something with you that I think you may enjoy. I'm a study nerd. You know all the issues about abortion. I wrote an article about it and how making abortion illegal would severely jeopardize this country. I used a lot of research to get all the stats to put out there and show all the idiots trying to take the choice away from mother, that doing so could destroy this country. Let the morons read this so they can see exactly what they are over looking like many dick head Male politicians do. I don't mi d if you share my research but take a look at it.

ABORTION ALLERT:

How many of you are against ABORTION?!

Now that I've caught all PRO-LIFE attention, I would like to share with you a little article that I wrote today.

Ok, I lied, it's a very long article. If I would have started this thing with numbers, stats, facts and figures, people would be like aaaah my eyes! It buuurns!!!

Well, some times the truth hurts. We close our eyes to things we don't want to see. Lately, it seems like this country has been keeping its eyes closed a lot. We may as well be blind. Instead, it's more like a coma. Wake up America!

Recent events has caused the internet to be plastered with the countries new favorite quote "Make America Great Again!"(Donald Trump).

I've been inspired to do my part, in effort to contribute to this goal. I volunteer as tribute! The tribute that I offer is knowledge. Knowledge=Power

Power=Electricity

Electricity=Spark

Spark=Flame

Flame=Ignite

I am here to ignite you. With my blog of: Wake Up America!

In which I will discuss various topics in my articles of Fish in a Pond!

***This isn't the debate team. I don't need to know if you're offended. Information enclosed aren't personal opinions or guesses. They're researched stats. In the event that your ass begins to hurt, stop reading immediately and just keep swimming!***

I would like to shed some light on something that has been a hot topic lately. Abortion with a hint of politics.

Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice

Republican vs Democrat

Conservative vs Liberal

I can't scroll through social media without seeing people bash democrats or "liberals" at every turn. Without the topic of abortion causing a status riot. How many people vote for only Pro-Life candidates? How many people refer to Pro-Choice as baby killing murderers?

-As of recently, there are 200 million citizens registered to vote. Anywhere from 40-43% of those are Republicans. This election, only 55% of registered voters actually voted. Lowest percentage in 20 years. Trump received around 62 million votes I think. Ok, so that's 62 million people who voted for the PRO LIFE party.

Abortion vs Adoption

Lets weigh the options. Here is the weight spreadsheet:

-Average number of abortions in the United States each year: 750,000

-There are roughly 110,000 children eligible for adoption (currently in the U.S.)

Of those, the children more likely to be adopted are between the ages of 0-7. 30% of those placed in foster care will spend 3 years there before being adopted. Bringing them closer to teen age range where their chance of being adopted drops drastically.

-In recent years, the amount of kids adopted has stayed consistent with an average of about ***50,000 each year.

So if my stats are correct, during Trumps (or any Republican President, this isn't a bash Trump post) 4 year term, around 200,000 kids will be adopted. So, out of 62 million people who voted (without adding those who didn't and are also against abortion) which would add up to several million more, ONLY 200,000 are adopted. Take away the single parents and same sex couples who adopt and around 120,000 of those adoptions are from male/female couples. 120k in 4 years (multiply that number by 2 because each kid was placed in a home with 2 parents) so that would be 240,000 same-sex family adoptions. Out of 62 million, only around 240,000 "republicans" will actually have an adopted child in the next 4 years.

-IF abortion was outlawed and the alternative that everyone suggests is to place the child up for adoption, that would eliminate ***750,000 abortions each year. So, the solution that is suggested would be to place a POSSIBLE 750,000 additional children up for adoption each year. Where statistics show that only 50,000 a year will be adopted. In 4 years, that would be an additional *3 MILLION* kids in foster care, yet only 200,000 will be adopted.

PLOT TWIST:

Lets talk about those tax dollars everyone loves to gripe about! Here is how you contradict yourself! Guess who pays for the insurance for pregnant women who can't afford the expenses? The state does. With your tax dollars. Guess who pays the bill for the high cost of delivering the baby? Your tax dollars. Guess who pays for the WIC? Your tax dollars. Guess who WOULD pay for each and every additional government assistance enrollment that's likely to be sought for each of these 750,000 additional births each year, had they not been aborted? Your tax dollars.

-Average cost of child birth is $18,000-$30,000 (vaginal vs C-section)

Those with insurance that covers most the cost, end up paying around $3,000 out of pocket. Those without and are unable to pay, will need Medicaid assistance to cover it. The medium of 18-30k is $24,000.

Now, multiply 24,000 by 750,000

That comes to 18 billion

Your tax dollars would need to cover up to 18 billion a year in additional child births alone.

Unless taxes increased A LOT, which NOBODY wants, this country couldn't possibly afford the expenses of supporting every child born, if they had not been aborted. Not to mention how population would sky rocket and we would end up having population control like China, where you're only allowed to have 1 child.

DOUBLE PLOT TWIST:

Guess whose good with numbers and statistics? The Government. Guess who already has all the math worked out for all the stats I just broke down? The Government. Guess who will NEVER make abortion illegal? The Government. Guess who is fully aware that this country couldn't afford the outcome of having no abortions, yet, still advocates themselves as being against it to obtain support from voters? Republican politicians. That you voted for. You vote for the principles they stand for that you yourself also stand for. How can they honestly stand for something that they already know would inevitably collapse this country? That "principle" alone, is what lets me know that Republican candidates don't fully back up values they claim to represent. Even if they do, they are fully aware that it's nothing more than an opinion that could never be implicated. Yet, still receive votes from people, some that only voted for them because they're pro-life.

Now, lets move on to more stats.

-Every year, about 23,000 children age out (turn 18) of foster care without finding a permanent family. This is tragic for many reasons: Only 2% of children who age out of foster care will go on to get a college education, and 80% of the prison population comprises adults who were in the foster care system at some point of their childhood.

Both of these outcomes will lead to the draining of more tax dollar. Adding 750,000 additional numbers into the equation each year will result in: higher crime rate, lower average income, tax increases, over crowding, rise in unemployment and pretty much a cost of living increase on everything.

Republican vs Democrat:

The same party that opposes abortion also opposes same sex marriage.

Now, Republican Party is against same-sex marriage. Those same people are most likely against same sex adoption. The most common excuse is "child will grow up confused without the "benefits" of traditional parents."

19% of same-sex couples have an adopted child. Research shows that children raised by gay or lesbian couples show a lot of sensitivity, openness, and a freedom of biases, so there are birth parents who actually prefer placing children with them.

So, based on simple facts, I would say they are much better off in a same sex home rather than left in the system. Yet, these same people who oppose these people, are opposing the ones who are more willing to adopt.

People really need to question their values.

I know you have difficulties seeing the great qualities in you. Some times it's easier to put yourself down. You are not inadequate. One of my favorite quotes. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frighten us. We ask ourselves- who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous or fabulous? Who are you not to be? You playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so others won't feel insecure around you. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same.

Look up "what is a dirty cookie" I warn you though...some things you just can't unread. I couldn't see myself getting into an argument on peoples interpretations of sexualizing baked goods. Makes it really difficult for me to go to a diner and say something like "give me that cherry pie and make sure it's fresh. Also, put some whipped cream on it. Extra creamy!" Then, you will hear muffled giggling from several people. Then, I'm stuck with a cherry pie that I don't want, all just to prove a point about pie. However, a dirty cookie isn't an argumentative meaning for me. It's a complete deal breaker/relationship is over meaning for me!
